چکیده
Intergroup biases shape most aspects of person construal, including lower-level visual representations group members' faces. Specifically, ingroup faces tend to be represented more positively than outgroup Here, we used a reverse-correlation paradigm test whether engaging in perspective taking (i.e., actively imagining another person's mental states) can reduce these biased representations. In an initial image-generation experiment, participants were randomly assigned minimal and then composed narrative essay about or target person, either while adopting the following control instructions. Afterward, they generated image face image-classification task. Subsequent image-assessment experiments using explicit rating task, sequential priming economic trust game with separate samples revealed that elicited likability trustworthiness did Importantly, this pattern intergroup bias was consistently weaker created by takers. Additional identified mouth smiling cues) as critical facial region wherein interactive effects membership emerged. These findings provide evidence may effective strategy for attenuating, though not eliminating, what members look like.

Perspective-Taking and Willingness to Engage in Intergroup Contact
The current research explored whether perspective-taking increases willingness to engage in contact with stereotyped outgroup members. Across three studies, we find that perspective-taking increases willingness to engage in contact with negatively-stereotyped targets. In Study 1, perspective-takers sat closer to, whereas stereotype suppressors sat further from, a hooligan compared to control pa...

Five experiments investigated the hypothesis that perspective taking—actively contemplating others’ psychological experiences—attenuates automatic expressions of racial bias. Across the first three experiments, participants who adopted the perspective of a Black target in an initial context subsequently exhibited more positive automatic interracial evaluations, with changes in automatic evaluat...
متن کاملIntergroup bias.
This chapter reviews the extensive literature on bias in favor of in-groups at the expense of out-groups. We focus on five issues and identify areas for future research: (a) measurement and conceptual issues (especially in-group favoritism vs. out-group derogation, and explicit vs. implicit measures of bias); (b) modern theories of bias highlighting motivational explanations (social identity, o...
